There’s something for everyone! Avalon’s calendar is filled with events from art festivals and museum exhibitions to concerts and sporting events. Here’s a look at what’s happening.

February 2017

2/3  First Fridays at the Museum (First Friday of each month)
First Fridays encourages residents and visitors to explore the museum's galleries and digital theater, enjoy refreshments and snacks in the outdoor plazas and shop in the Museum Store. Events may include music and dance performances, lectures, gallery talks, or films. 6pm - 9pm. CatalinaMuseum.org

2/11  Aero Club Social Fly-In (2nd Saturday of the month, weather permitting)
Fly-in or take the Wildlands Express from the Avalon Plaza to the Airport in the Sky. From 10am - 2pm. Visit with pilots from around the region and view amazing airplanes. 310.510.0954, CatalinaConservancy.com

2/11  Windward Beach Cleanup (2nd Saturday each month)
Volunteer in the great outdoors while combing the sand for debris to help keep our windward beaches pristine. Clean-up locations (Shark Harbor, Little Harbor, Ben Weston and Cottonwood) rotate throughout the year. 310.510.2595 ext. 112, CatalinaConservancy.com

2/14  Valentine's Dinner at the M Restaurant

2/17 – 2/19  President's Weekend at the M Restaurant

2/24  Successful Bald Eagle Restoration: A Night with Dr. Pete Sharpe

2/25  36th Annual Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup
USC's Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber and Wrigley Institute for Enfironmental Studies, Catalina Conservancy Divers are proud to host this 36th annual event. This is the only time scuba diving is allowed in Avalon Bay, with 500+ expected volunteer divers collecting trash and debris. 2/26  An Evening with Oscar

2/26  Yoga & Hiking with REI & Island Spa Catalina
Combine the power of yoga and the cardio of hiking for a day-long adventure on Catalina Island. Embark on a journey from the Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden on a three mile hike with a comfortable incline to take in spectacular views of both sides of the island. Then, unite your mind, body and breath through a personalized yoga class, overlooking the Avalon Harbor at the Island Spa. This “bucket list’ marathon features the exciting and historic marathon course used largely since the first year on the Catalina Island Conservancy’s lands. This includes much of the rugged terrain, spectacular vistas, challenging climbs and special challenges enjoyed by thousands of runners over the years! 3/17  St. Patricks Karaoke Party at El Galleon

3/26 - 12/11  Chihuly at the Catalina Island Museum
Dale Chihuly, an American sculptor, has mastered the alluring, translucent and transparent qualities of ice, water, glass and neon, to create works of art that transform the viewer experience.  He is globally renowned for his ambitious site-specific architectural installations in public spaces, and in exhibitions presented in museums and gardens worldwide.  This spring the Catalina Island Museum will present Chihuly at the Catalina Island Museum, the second major museum exhibition of Chihuly’s work in southern California. This exhibition marks a new direction for the Catalina Island Museum, which now makes its home in the recently constructed Ada Blanche Wrigley Schreiner Building. Its outdoor atrium, landscaped gardens and views of Catalina’s canyons and clear waters are the ideal setting for Chihuly’s sculptures, many of which reference or are inspired by natural elements. Museum members and island visitors will be immersed in some of Chihuly’s most iconic works, including SeaformsRed ReedsMille Fiori, the Sea Blue and Green Tower, a breathtaking 18-foot chandelier installation in its soaring lobby and more. 10am-5pm daily from March 26-December 11, 2017 at the Catalina Island Museum. 310.510.2421, Catalinamuseum.org

This year we celebrate the 22nd Annual Catalina Island Conservancy Ball! The black tie event includes dinner and dancing with silent and live auctions.
