Celebrating 36 Years of Service

This year Catalina Express celebrates its 36th year of service to Catalina Island. Starting with only one boat and one phone, Catalina Express has emerged as the leader of marine transportation to Catalina Island. Each year, more than one million passengers set sail on board the Catalina Express fleet.

Catalina Express began in 1981 when three Catalina Island residents realized the need for fast, reliable transportation to and from the island. Doug Bombard, his son Greg Bombard and long time colleague, Tom Rutter, worked tirelessly to make the vision a reality. Since then more than 25 million passengers have set sail to Catalina Island on board Catalina Express.

In its first year of service Catalina Express operated with one, 60-passenger vessel. The founders worked closely with boat builders to design vessels with innovative features like full ride control systems for stability, modern navigational systems, airline-style cabin seating, panoramic viewing windows, and on-deck seating, which won immediate acceptance from passengers.

Join Us At Catalina Express!

Catalina Express provides a unique, upbeat and friendly work environment. Offering seasonal and year-round employment on land and at sea, our passenger counts normally peak between April and September. We begin recruiting seasonal staff in February of each year to start training for the busy spring and summer months. With Labor Day officially ending summer, we gradually begin reducing our staff to compensate for the change in business demands during the fall and winter months. If an employee is not retained during our off-peak season, but maintained a positive employment record with Catalina Express he/she may be invited to come back the following season.

RESERVATION SALES DEPARTMENT

We are now accepting applications for seasonal Reservations Sales Agents.

As an agent in our inbound Contact Center, you will promote our passenger service and Catalina Island. The primary responsibilities of this position are sales and customer service. Please note that all calls are inbound and we operate in what is considered a “soft-sell” sales environment.

Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of 6 months Call Center, sales, or customer service experience, basic computer knowledge, typing skills of 35 words per minute, and excellent customer service skills. Must be able to work a combination of early mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. Holidays will be required.

TICKET AGENT

We are now accepting applications for seasonal Mainland Ticket Agents.

As a Ticket Agent at one or more of our busy ticket sales counters, you will check-in passengers for scheduled departures, book walk-in reservations and provide general customer assistance.

Qualified candidates will possess 6 months cash handling and customer service experience, basic computer knowledge and data entry skills of 30 words per minute. Ability to work at a very fast pace is of the utmost importance. Must be able to work a combination of early mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. Holidays will be required.

Scheduled shifts begin as early as 5 a.m. and end as late as 9:00 p.m., seven days a week. If hired, you may work an average of 20 – 40 hours per week through mid-September. Job locations include our San Pedro Port and Long Beach Port.

ADMINISTRATIVE, MANAGEMENT OR OTHER

Food and Beverage Manager, Waterborne:
We are currently looking for a Food and Beverage Manager for our waterborne operations. This position is responsible for day to day observation and recording of sales performance by the Cabin Attendants, maintaining supply counts for alcohol, food and stock according to sales projection and customer preference.
As a  Food and Beverage Manager, Waterborne, you will be responsible for all food and beverage service relating to vessel service, including development, implementation and maintenance of on board menu, inventory, and implementation of the POS system. The product development, implementation of new POS system include cash register, monitor, cash drawer, receipt printer, barcode scanner and a debit and credit card reader. Duties include but are not limited to oversight of the stockroom personnel.
REQUIRED: Minimum of 5 years food and beverage management experience, proficient in menu billing and cost analysis, ability to implement programs independently, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, strong attention to detail, not prone to seasickness and ability to travel on company vessels.

Line Cook:
Providing quality service and product to our passengers in one or more of our busy land based grills. Scheduled shifts begin as early as 5 a.m. and may end as late as 9 p.m. Normal shifts range from 6 – 8 hours per day. If hired, you may work 25 – 40 hours per week through September. Holidays and weekends are required.

Deli Counterpersons:
Deli Counterpersons provide customer service, taking orders and completing transactions at the counter. Scheduled shifts begin as early as 5 a.m. and may end as late as 9 p.m. Normal shifts range from 5 – 8 hours per day. If hired, you may work 20 – 40 hours per week through September. Holidays and weekends are required.

Job Conditions and Environment:
This job requires the ability to travel between our ports as well as receive emergency repair calls after hours. Weekend work is required. The work may occur under adverse weather conditions. Travel may be involved on certain projects. It also requires the ability to fit into tight fitting spaces for repair work. Pre-employment drug testing is required.
