9/6-9/7 55th Annual Catalina Channel Crossing – US Outrigger Championships
Longest Polynesian canoe race in the continental U.S., 26 miles from Newport Beach to Avalon. Women race over to Catalina on Saturday; Men race back to the mainland on Sunday. Enjoy Hawaiian festivities, music and beer garden in Avalon’s center of town on Saturday. Proceeds go to support local charities. Southern California Outrigger Racing Association. 858-442-2536,


9/13 Catalina Island Women’s Forum Wine Festival

9/13 Aero Club Social Fly-In (2nd Sat. of the month, weather permitting)

9/24-9/28 Catalina Film Festival
Annual celebration of Catalina’s rich film history features approximately 100 films screened at multiple venues around the island plus nightly events and entertainment. The festival is competitive with awards in up to 10 categories, including our festival partners’ prestigious awards; the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation’s “Great Communicator” Award, the Chaplin Family’s Charlie Chaplin ICON Award, and the ISLA Earth Award - an honor presented by the Festival’s beneficiary, the Catalina Island Conservancy. 9/27 National Museum Day

10/4-5 3rd Annual Catalina Air Show
Celebrate the history of avaition on Catalina Island. Air show is held off the Avalon Bay breakwater and at teh Airport in the Sky. Aviation events include aerobatic aircrat performances, displays and concessions. Catalina Air Show, 888-798-1118.

10/9-10/12, 10/16 -10/19 The Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival
Features the newest and best talent in the smooth jazz genre. 11/8 8th Annual Catalina Island Eco-Marathon / 10K
Named "Best Island Run" in 2012 by Runners World Magazine. Event attracts many of the elite ultra-runners. Run 26 miles of single track trails and ridgelines with views of the Pacific Ocean on both sides of the island. Run through a variety of eco-systems, each with unique plant and animal life. Students and industry professionals immerse themselves in a workshop setting surrounded by the spectacular beauty of Catalina Island.
