What is the Catalina Express Birthday Promotion?

A :

Catalina Express offers 2 full fare Adult tickets when traveling together round-trip for the price of 1 full fare Adult ticket when starting your travel on your actual birth date and present proper valid ID.

   

What is a Proper Valid ID?

Q : What is proper Identification for presentation?
A :

You must provide proof of your birth date and valid identification. Valid photo IDs accepted are a driver’s licenses, state or government issued photo IDs or a government issued passport. If you are under the age of 18 and do not have any of the above, either an original or notarized birth certificate must be presented. School IDs or children security IDs are not acceptable. Photocopies, electronic copies and photos are not acceptable. Your valid ID name must match your “Birthday Pass”.

Q : What happens if I forget to bring proper identification?
A :

You no longer qualify for the Birthday Promotion. Photocopies, electronic copies and photos of your ID are not acceptable.

 

General Questions

Q : When is the Birthday Promotion valid?
A :

Valid for travel on your birthday January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017. Subject to availability.

Q : When can I travel on this promotion?
A :

You MUST start travel on your actual birth date. You may return anytime within 30 days after your departure date. Subject to availability.

Q : How do I qualify for travel on the Birthday Promotion?
A :

You are required to pre-register online prior to your birth date at CatalinaExpress.com. Look on the homepage for Birthday Promotion registration. Must start travel on the day of your actual birthday and purchase 1 full fare Adult ticket and travel together round-trip.

Q : Can I travel on a holiday?
A :

Yes. Subject to availability.

Q : Where can I travel from?
A :

ALL Catalina Express ports offering service (including Avalon and Two Harbors).

Q : Do I need to pay the taxes or are there any extra fees?
A :

No, taxes are included in the full fare Adult ticket purchase.

Q : Does this include seating in the Captain's Lounge or Commodore Lounge?
A :

The Birthday Promotion is for general seating. You may upgrade and pay for the Captain’s or Commodore Lounge seating.

Q : Can I travel just one way?
A :

No, you cannot make one way reservations.

Q : Can this be combined with any other offer or discount?
A :

Others members in your party may use any valid discount or offer beyond the 2 Adults traveling with the Birthday Promotion. A valid discount coupon must be presented at the ticket window at time of check-in to receive the discount and is subject to that specific coupon/discount restrictions. Reservations for additional members in your party utilizing a valid discount coupon may not be made online. Reservations must be made by calling the Catalina Express Contact Center.

Q : Is the Birthday Promotion available when purchasing a hotel package when boat transportation is included?
A :

No, the Birthday Promotion is not part of hotel packages and would require its own reservation.

 

Registration, Reservation and Travel Questions

Q : Do you have to be a certain age to register online?
A :

You must be 13 years or older to register online. If you are under the age of 13, an adult 18 or over must register for you.

Q : Once I have registered, will I receive a confirmation?
A :

Yes, you will receive an email registration confirmation within minutes. From this email, you will be able to download and print your “Birthday Pass” to bring with you to the ticket window on your birthday. The “Birthday Pass” will be unique to you and include a promo code that will be needed when making your actual boat reservations.

Q : I registered, but I did not receive an email confirmation?
A :

Please check your junk and spam folders. Catalina Express emails can get caught in there from time to time. Please add Catalina Express to your Safe Sender's list to receive our emails.

Q : How do I make my actual boat reservations?
A :

1) You may book your reservation online at CatalinaExpress.com. You will be asked to provide the promo code from your “Birthday Pass” that is unique to you. You will be instructed to bring your “Birthday Pass” and proper ID for presentation at the ticket window at the time of check-in. Departure date and name must match your ID to utilize your “Birthday Pass”. Photocopies, electronic copies and photos are not acceptable. Other members in your party may be added to your reservation. Payment in full is required.

2) You may call the Catalina Express Contact Center at 800.995.4386. Reservations are booked as full fare, a credit card is required and all standard policies apply. You will be asked to provide the promo code from your “Birthday Pass” that is unique to you. You will be instructed to bring your “Birthday Pass” and proper ID for presentation at the ticket window at the time of check-in. Departure date and name must match your ID to utilize your “Birthday Pass”. Your reservation confirmation will indicate a rate of 2 full fare Adults. The discount will be applied at the ticket window with presentation of your “Birthday Pass” and proper ID. Photocopies, electronic copies and photos are not acceptable. Other members in your party may be added to your reservation.

Q : Why would I be asked for my credit card if I travel free on my birthday?
A :

This is standard reservation policy. This is necessary to secure your reservation.

Q : What if I am traveling with another person who is also celebrating their birthday?
A :

Each birthday traveler would be required to make their own reservation providing their unique promo code from their “Birthday Pass” and requires the purchase of at least 1 full fare Adult ticket per birthday traveler.

Q : What happens if I made reservations and I can’t go that day?

A :

You no longer qualify for the Birthday Promotion. You will not be charged however, the full fare Adult will be held to the standard cancellation policy. Reservations not cancelled by 6:00pm the day before departure date will be charged.

Q : What happens if I do not have anyone to travel with me on my birthday?
A :

You no longer qualify; this promotion requires the purchase of an additional full fare Adult ticket.

Q : What if my travel companion is a senior, child or infant?
A : The Birthday Promotion requires the purchase of a full fare Adult ticket. A senior, child or infant may travel utilizing the full fare Adult ticket.

Q : What happens if the additional full fare Adult cannot travel at the same time as me?
A : To qualify, you must travel together round-trip.

Q : What happens if the boat is cancelled due to inclement weather?
A :

Mid-week Birthday travelers:

  • If reservation was pre-paid, you will be refunded for the additional full fare Adult ticket and receive one complimentary pass valid for 2 passengers for mid-week travel (Monday through Thursday) valid for 30 days after cancelled travel date, excluding holidays. Payment for the additional full fare Adult ticket must be paid at time of new travel date.
  • If reservation has not been paid in advance, you will receive one complimentary pass valid for 2 passengers for midweek travel (Monday through Thursday) valid for 30 days after cancelled travel date, excluding holidays. Payment for the additional full fare Adult ticket must be paid at time of new travel date.

Weekend Birthday travelers:

  • If reservation was pre-paid, you will be refunded for the additional full fare Adult ticket and receive one complimentary pass valid for 2 passengers for anytime travel valid for 30 days after cancelled travel date, excluding holidays. Payment for the additional full fare Adult ticket must be paid at time of new travel date.
  • If reservation has not been paid in advance, you will receive one complimentary pass valid for 2 passengers for anytime travel valid for 30 days after cancelled travel date, excluding holidays. Payment for the additional full fare Adult ticket must be paid at time of new travel date.
Q : What if I want to change my departure time?
A :

You may change your departure time (not date) and/or return time prior to departure without penalty. Must travel with full fare Adult ticket together round-trip. Subject to availability. Standard policies apply.

Q : What happens if I miss the last boat returning to the mainland?
A :

You will need to change your ticket. A $5 ticket change fee per ticket will be applied. Subject to availability and must be within the 30 days of departure date. Standard policies apply.

Q : Can I pick up my Birthday promotion actual boat tickets prior to my birthday?
A :

No, Birthday Promotion tickets can only be picked up on your actual birth date.

Q : What if I pre-purchased a package through a hotel that included boat transportation and now want to take advantage of the Birthday promotion?
A :

The Catalina Express Birthday Promotion cannot be combined with hotel package bookings. The pre-purchased hotel package is not refundable; however, you can still take advantage of the promotional offers on the Island by obtaining a birthday button from the Catalina Express ticket window providing your Catalina Express ticket and proof of birthday.

Q : My birthday is Feb. 29, but 2017 is not a Leap Year. How do I take advantage of the promotion?
A :

Please contact us at [email protected] and we will send you a complimentary pass valid for travel on March 1, 2017. Valid photo ID showing February 29 birthday is required at the ticket window at check-in.

Q : Can I pick up my Birthday Promotion actual boat tickets prior to my birthday?
A :

No, Birthday Promotion tickets can only be picked up on your actual birth date.
