April

4/1  22nd Annual Conservancy Ball
This year we celebrate the 22nd Annual Catalina Island Conservancy Ball! The black tie event includes dinner and dancing with silent and live auctions. Our theme this year, Taking Flight, highlights all our feathered friends that call upon the Island during their journey. Advance reservations required – tickets do sell out! 4/7  First Fridays at the Museum (First Friday of each month)
First Fridays encourages residents and visitors to explore the museum's galleries and digital theater, enjoy refreshments and snacks in the outdoor plazas and shop in the Museum Store. 4/8  Aero Club Social Fly-In (2nd Saturday of the month, weather permitting)

4/8  Windward Beach Cleanup (2nd Saturday each month)
Volunteer in the great outdoors while combing the sand for debris to help keep our windward beaches pristine. Clean-up locations (Shark Harbor, Little Harbor, Ben Weston and Cottonwood) rotate throughout the year. 310.510.2595 ext. 112, CatalinaConservancy.com

4/13  Spring Fest

4/14 - 4/16  Annual Catalina Spring Art Fair and Craft Festival

4/16  Community Easter Egg Hunt

4/22  Catalina Island Concert Series on Wrigley Plaza Stage
The Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce and Xceptional Music Company are pleased to present this FREE, family friendly Concert Series, next to the Bay on Wrigley Plaza Stage. 3/26 - 12/11  Chihuly at the Catalina Island Museum
Dale Chihuly, an American sculptor, has mastered the alluring, translucent and transparent qualities of ice, water, glass and neon, to create works of art that transform the viewer experience.  He is globally renowned for his ambitious site-specific architectural installations in public spaces, and in exhibitions presented in museums and gardens worldwide.  This spring the Catalina Island Museum will present Chihuly at the Catalina Island Museum, the second major museum exhibition of Chihuly’s work in southern California. This exhibition marks a new direction for the Catalina Island Museum, which now makes its home in the recently constructed Ada Blanche Wrigley Schreiner Building. Its outdoor atrium, landscaped gardens and views of Catalina’s canyons and clear waters are the ideal setting for Chihuly’s sculptures, many of which reference or are inspired by natural elements. Museum members and island visitors will be immersed in some of Chihuly’s most iconic works, including SeaformsRed ReedsMille Fiori, the Sea Blue and Green Tower, a breathtaking 18-foot chandelier installation in its soaring lobby and more. 10am-5pm daily from March 26-December 11, 2017 at the Catalina Island Museum. 310.510.2414, Catalinamuseum.org

5/5  Cinco de Mayo Celebration at Mi Casita
All day celebration Friday, May 5 in the upstairs patio at Mi Casita Mexican Restaurant. Enjoy food & drink specials all day and Mexican karaoke. 5/6  24th Annual Catalina Island Rugby Festival

5/6  2nd Annual Catalina Island Chili Cookoff
Join us on South Beach on beautiful Catalina Island for the 2nd Annual Catalina Island Chili Cookoff. All ages are welcome, fun for the whole family. 5/6  Kentucky Derby Days at El Galleon
Celebrate the race from 2pm-6pm, (post time 3:34pm) with mint juleps, hats, happy hour and early bird dinner specials. Contest for best men & women’s hats with 1st prize – Steak & Lobster Dinner! View the race on 11 large flat screen TVs and stay for the karaoke party after the race.

5/20  The Avalon Ball
The Art Deco Society of Los Angeles will host the 15th annual Avalon Ball  in the Cataina Casino Ballroom on May 20. This event is a journey into the past when Big Bands played for large audiences and the performances were broadcast to the nation in the Art Deco Casino Ballroom built in 1929.  This magical night will feature an evening of dancing to music from the 1920s and 30s performed by Dean Mora & the Avalon Ball Dance Orchestra. Immerse yourself in glorious Deco opulence gliding across the 10,000 square foot dance floor surrounded by romantic ocean views. Please call 310-659-3326 for more information.

5/20  Annual Silent Film Benefit
The Silent Film Benefit provides the rare opportunity to experience cinema the way it was originally intended, with live musical accompaniment by an orchestra in a grand movie palace. This year's silent adventure is the first film adaptation of J.M. Barrie's play entitled, Peter Pan. In the story, Peter Pan was a magical boy who refuses to grow up and brings the Darling children to Neverland. Their adventures include a confrontation with Captain Hook and his crew. It was partially filmed on Catalina Island. Award-winning composer and sound designer, Michael Mortilla and The Accompanists will provide live orchestral accompaniment. The group will perform an original score written by Mortilla specifically for this event. Period dress is encouraged. Please call 310-510-2414 for more information.

6/1  13th Annual Taste Around of Avalon

6/4  Relay for Life

Kids Fishing Derby (each Wednesday starting June 21)
Free activity! Bring your own rod & reel or dropline (or purchase on the Green Pier) and join our fishing guide! Prizes awarded every week following the derby. Bait & gear also available on the Pier. 7am-9am every Wednesday. City of Avalon Recreation Department.

July

7/4  Annual 4th of July Parade, Dinner at the Casino Ballroom, Fireworks Display
1:00pm: 4th of July Golf Cart Parade down Crescent Avenue
Participation is open to all! Golf cart judging will take place before the parade on lower Descanso Avenue beginning at 10:00am. Line up for the parade begins at 12:30pm at the Casino building. 2017 4th of July Parade Theme: TBD. Parade lead by the USC Marching Band.
4:00pm: Avalon Bay Dinghy Parade
6:15pm: Annual 4th of July Dinner in the Casino Ballroom, USC Marching Band & Fireworks Display Annual 4th of July Celebration at the world famous Avalon Casino Ballroom. Live performance by the USC Marching Band, Buffet Dinner, and Fireworks viewing from the grand Casino Balcony. Doors open at 6:15 pm, buffet dinner & dessert from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, USC Marching Band concert from 7:30 to 8:30 pm.
9:00pm: Annual Fireworks Display over Avalon Bay

7/4  Annual 4th of July Dinner in the Casino Ballroom, USC Marching Band & Fireworks Display
Join us to celebrate the 4th of July Catalina style! Enjoy a live performance by the University of Southern California Marching Band,  followed by a Buffet Dinner, and Spectacular Fireworks Display from the Grand Casino Balcony.
