Catalina Express provides a unique, upbeat and friendly work environment. Offering seasonal and year-round employment on land and at sea, our passenger counts normally peak between April and September. We begin recruiting seasonal staff in February of each year to start training for the busy spring and summer months. With Labor Day officially ending summer, we gradually begin reducing our staff to compensate for the change in business demands during the fall and winter months. Reservations Sales Agent
As an agent in our inbound Contact Center, you will promote our passenger service and Catalina Island. The primary responsibilities of this position are sales and customer service. Please note that all calls are inbound and we operate in what is considered a “soft-sell” sales environment.
Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of 6 months Call Center, sales, or customer service experience, basic computer knowledge, typing skills of 35 words per minute, and excellent customer service skills. Must be able to work a combination of early mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. Holidays will be required.
Scheduled shifts begin as early as 5:45am and end as late as 9pm. If hired, you may work between 25-40 hours per week through our peak season which ends in September. Although not guaranteed, there is a possibility for year-round employment. The job location is in our Contact Center in our administration building in San Pedro. The Contact Center is open for business 7 days per week.
Vessel Engineers perform routine maintenance on our fleet as directed by the Port Engineer as well as perform inspections of vessels for repair and maintenance standards and procedures working with other company engineers as needed.
· Experience in maintaining diesel engines; knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical HVA systems a plus
· Ability to repair marine equipment on site under adverse conditions at times
· Ability to interact with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment
· Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions
· Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance
· Ability to interact professionally with all departments
· Must have a valid drivers license
Job Conditions and Environment:
This job requires the ability to travel between our ports as well as receive emergency repair calls after hours. Weekend work is required. The work may occur under adverse weather conditions. Travel may be involved on certain projects. It also requires the ability to fit into tight fitting spaces for repair work.
Pre-employment drug testing is required.
BOAT CREW POSITIONS
As a member of our boat crew, Galley Attendants provide beverage and snack service both behind the galley and to seated passengers. Primary responsibilities are to ensure passenger safety and comfort.
Qualified candidates will be at least 21 years of age and possess a minimum of 6 months cash handling, restaurant and/or bartending experience, not be prone to seasickness and be able to pass a U.S. Coast Guard required drug screen. Must be able to work a combination of early mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. Holidays will be required. Must be able to work out of all four Catalina Express Ports. Must have a California Food Handlers Card if hired.
Scheduled shifts begin as early as 5am and may end as late as 2am Normal shifts range from 6-12 hours per day. If hired you may work between 15 to 35 hours per week through October.
As a member of our Boat Crew, Deckhands load and unload baggage, clean and secure deck and cabin areas, and provide general customer assistance. Primary responsibilities are to ensure passenger safety and comfort.
Qualified candidates will be at least 18 years of age and possess a minimum of 6 months customer service experience, the ability to lift 70 lbs. of weight, stand, walk and bend for extended periods of time, and not be prone to seasickness. Candidates must also be able to pass a required U.S. Coast Guard drug screen. Must be able to work a combination of early mornings, afternoon, evenings and weekends. Holidays will be required. Must be able to work out of all four ports. Must have a California Food Handlers Card if hired.
ADMINISTRATIVE, MANAGEMENT OR OTHER
Providing quality service and product to our passengers in one or more of our busy land based grills. Scheduled shifts begin as early as 5am and may end as late as 9pm. Normal shifts range from 6 – 8 hours per day. If hired, you may work 25 – 40 hours per week through September. Holidays and weekends are required.
Deli Counterpersonnel provide customer service, taking orders and completing transactions at the counter. Scheduled shifts begin as early as 5am and may end as late as 9pm. Normal shifts range from 5 – 8 hours per day. If hired, you may work 20 – 40 hours per week through September. Holidays and weekends are required.
