LUNCH: Stop in at Three Palms Arcade and Cafe for a New York-style, thin-crust pizza and play arcade games in your spare time. AFTERNOON: Visit Descanso Beach Club, where you can rent a kayak or head for the Climbing Wall, Zipline Eco Tour or Aerial Adventure. DAY TWO: Get in touch with the Catalina Island Conservancy for maps and advice on where to hike, then head for the hills on the Garden-to-Sky Trail or one of the other hiking trails on the Island. Couples MORNING: Jump on Afishinado’s Catallac, a 50-foot power catamaran, for a lively coastal cruise, where you’ll see seals, dolphins and possibly whales. Or rent a kayak from Descanso Beach Ocean Sports. LUNCH: Drop by Maggie’s Blue Rose for upscale Mexican food and margaritas, or for more traditional Mexican food—and great potato tacos—try Coyote Joe’s. Both have terrific ambiance and awesome drinks. AFTERNOON: Take time to relax and recharge. Get a couples’ massage, an island specialty, at Catalina Island Spa or one of the many other spas in Avalon. For dinner, reserve a window table for romantic views of the harbor at Steve’s Steakhouse & Seafood, a top-award winner in the annual Taste Around of Avalon contest. DAY TWO: Explore the Interior. Take a tour by Jeep, Hummer or bus into the Island’s backcountry, where you’ll see deserted beaches, rugged backcountry roads, bison and other wildlife. Culture MORNING: Get to know Avalon by visiting the Casino, where Big Bands and Hollywood once played. While you’re there, take an insider’s tour. LUNCH: Grab a table on the bay- front patio of Bluewater Avalon Seafood Restaurant for a great view and grilled swordfish or ahi. AFTERNOON: Sign up with Silver Canyon Pottery for an afternoon tile-making class. You’ll learn how the famous Catalina tiles were produced in the 1920s and 30s and be able Adventurers MORNING: Start your day by taking to the trees at Catalina Aerial Adventures, a new ropes-and-planks canopy course that weaves through a grove of towering eucalyptus trees deep within Descanso Canyon. LUNCH: Walk downtown enjoying great bay views as you go. Stop in at the Lobster Trap for fresh-from-the sea halibut and other grilled seafood. Or visit El Galleon for the restaurant’s specialty, fish and chips. AFTERNOON: Get high with Action Flyboarding, a summertime adventure sport that will have you flying over the water like Ironman. Another option: head back up to Descanso for the Zip Line Eco Tour, which will zip you from the hilltops down to the sea.
