Mature MORNING: Visit the Casino, where Big Bands and celebrities once played. While you’re there, book the new Twilight-at-the-Casino evening tour, which includes a spin around the famous dance floor. LUNCH: Stop in at the Lobster Trap, a favorite with locals, for chowder, fresh-from-the-sea halibut and other grilled seafood. AFTERNOON: Browse the shops in downtown Avalon, where you’ll find unique gifts and apparel. Be sure to visit Catalina Island Museum to learn more about the Island’s ties to Hollywood. DAY TWO: You haven’t seen Catalina until you’ve seen the interior. Explore the backcountry. Take a tour by Jeep, Hummer or bus into the Island’s interior, where you’ll see deserted beaches, rugged backcountry roads, bison and other wildlife. Culture MORNING: See the city—and postcard-pretty views—on the new Wrigley’s Catalina scenic tour, which gives visitors a look at iconic locations and history of the Island while exploring the beachfront, hillsides and heart of the city. LUNCH: Treat yourself to lunch at Mt. Ada. You’ll dine high in the hills behind Avalon at the Wrigley Mansion, onetime home of island entrepreneur William Wrigley Jr. and his wife Ada. Or try the margaritas and tacos at Coyote Joe’s. AFTERNOON: Spend time at Catalina Island Museum, where you’ll meet the Native Americans, explorers and buccaneers who once roamed here. You’ll also discover the Island’s ties to Hollywood. DAY TWO: Book a Dining or Happy Hour tour with Catalina Food Tours for a fun way to get acquainted with the Island’s pop culture and Catalina-style foods and beverages. Adventurers MORNING: Make like a bird and get to know Avalon by soaring above it on a parasail ride, available at Island Water Charters. You’ll get a fabulous view of the town and coastline. Or rent an SUP to explore the bay. LUNCH: Grab a table on the bayfront patio of Bluewater Avalon for a great view and grilled swordfish or ahi. Or drop by Maggie’s Blue Rose for upscale Mexican food and margaritas. AFTERNOON: Zip from the Island’s rugged hills down to the sea on Descanso’s Zip Line Eco Tour. Then pop over to Catalina Aerial Adventures to try the ropes-and-planks course that weaves its way through a grove of towering eucalyptus trees. DAY TWO: If you stay another day, visit Catalina Divers Supply to set up an underwater adventure. Divers come from around the nation to see Catalina’s undersea gardens and marine life. @C ARL EYN ELS ON _PH OTO GRA PHY
